Au cours de la Première Guerre mondiale, épouses, sœurs et petites amies portaient souvent une broche représentant le badge miniature de l’unité dans laquelle servaient leurs bien-aimés. Après la guerre, de nombreux anciens combattants, eux-mêmes, portaient ces badges.
L’insigne du Newfoundland Regiment, inspiré de celui des Newfoundland Highlanders (corps de cadets paramilitaires formé en 1907), est frappé en laiton et émaillé, ce ‘‘sweetheart’’ (expression couramment utilisée que nous pouvons traduire par ‘‘petite amie’’) est une reproduction parfaite des fabrications de l’époque.

During the First World War, wives, sisters and girlfriends commonly wore a pin-brooche depicting the miniature badge of the unit in which their beloved ones were serving. Post-war, many veterans themselves used to wear these pin-badges.
The badge of the Newfoundland Regiment is inspired by that of the Newfoundland Highlanders own (para-military cadet corps formed in 1907), this ‘‘sweetheart’’ badge (a phrase commonly used), made of struck brass and enamelled, is a perfect reproduction of the manufacturings at the time.
